Frank
I'm Frank Griffiths and I'm a driver installer.
I usually have 15 or 20 deliveries to do a day. About half a dozen of those will also involve installing washing machines or tuning a telly or wiring a cooker – that sort of thing.
On a typical day, I'd arrive about 7 o'clock in the morning to clock in. Then I'd check the lorry, making sure the load is secure and that all the right items are on there. Meanwhile, my mate would normally be sorting out the delivery addresses so we're ready to hit the road... probably about quarter past seven.
We are ambassadors. Sometimes we're the only Comet people customers see... particularly with a number of people now buying things on the internet. So we're the face of Comet when we turn up on the doorstep. And I think it is important to win the confidence of the customer. We're trying our best to be polite and courteous and to deliver the goods on time.
I suppose you also need some diplomacy as well sometimes when you're dealing with the customers face to face. When there's a difficulty or you're running late, we try and resolve the problems as peacefully as possible.
I quite like getting up and driving round the countryside and delivering to people who, on the whole, are pleased to see you and are quite excited about it.
I also enjoy the installations and sorting out problems if they crop up. At the end of the day, if the customer's happy with the installation then it's a job well done.
