Debbie
My name's Debbie and I work in the Ashton-under-Lyne store in Manchester.
My job role involves looking after the customers and selling them products. I can sell anything on the shop floor, from LCDs to digital cameras to washing machines... whatever. I give the lads a little bit of a run for their money as well – which is good.
It can be a long day, being on your feet constantly from 9 to 6. I was actually asked to wear a pedometer and I think I covered about three miles in a day!
I love the environment because there's a lot of young people and fun people there. It's also really interesting, getting to learn about new technology and being able to advise other people on it as well.
It's actually very easy to come and work in the store because there's training there for anybody – even if they know nothing about electrical retail.
At Comet we don't get paid commission. That way, every customer that walks through the door gets the best possible service. And we sell the products the customer actually needs, not the products that the sales person wants to sell them.
We also get team bonuses. It's a matter of everybody pulling together and, at the end of the week, whatever the bonus is it's divided between all of the staff. That includes sales people, warehouse people, admin people, so every person within that store gets a bite of the cherry.
